Meal for 200 people: First soup kitchen to open in Visoko

Visoko will soon get its first soup kitchen, where 200 people will receive free meals, writes the BH News Agency Patria (NAP).

This humanitarian project will be financed by citizens' voluntary contributions and local businessmen who have already announced significant support for the project.

The Association “Young Volunteers”, which established the soup kitchen in this city, explains that the number of socially vulnerable people in Visoko is higher than 200, but the association is currently only able to provide one daily meal for those recommended by the local Center for Social Work.

In Bosnia and Herzegovina, there is an increasing number of soup kitchen users who are unable to provide themselves with even one quality meal a day. According to data from international and domestic organizations, half of the population in BiH lives in poverty, while 18 percent of citizens are below the critical poverty line.

Belmin Debelac, president of “Young Volunteers”, says that he and his friends felt that the residents of Visoko, who are in a better financial situation, want to help their vulnerable fellow citizens. The soup kitchen is the best and safest way to do that.

- Soup kitchen users will have one meal a day, which will be of very high quality – Debelac told Patria.

- For those who are immobile, or for some other reason unable to come to the soup kitchen, our volunteers will deliver food to their homes.

Debelac says that the idea of a soup kitchen has received great support from the population in Visoko. Local restaurants, he says, have even offered their delivery vehicles to help volunteers deliver food more easily to immobile users of the kitchen.

The soup kitchen in Visoko will be located at Kovačica 2 street, in the Sebilj neighborhood, writes NAP.
