(Patria) - The new Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei stated in a written message that all enemies of the country must be denied security, reacting to the assassination of the Minister of Intelligence which occurred in Tehran at the beginning of the week.
In a written message, Khamenei emphasized: “Security can be denied to internal and external enemies, and guaranteed to all our compatriots.”
Iranian Minister of Intelligence Esmail Khatib was assassinated in an Israeli attack carried out on the night between Tuesday and Wednesday. The assassination occurred just one day after the country's highest security official, Ali Larijani, was also killed.
In a message addressed to President Masoud Pezeshkian, Khamenei described Khatib as a “long-serving and humble veteran”. He added that “his absence must be compensated for by doubled efforts” by the Ministry of Intelligence.
Since the beginning of the conflict with Israel and the United States at the end of February, Iran has lost dozens of high-ranking officials and military commanders.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi hinted earlier this week that Mojtaba Khamenei himself was slightly injured during Israeli attacks on Tehran, but has since recovered.
