29th anniversary of the 'Pretis' operation marked

(Patria) - In the presence of surviving participants, the "Patriotic League" Veterans Associations of Vogošća and Novi Grad, and the Veterans Association of the Special Police Unit "BOSNA", representatives of the Municipality of Vogošća, representatives of the Municipality of Novi Grad, representatives of the Sarajevo Canton, and the Coordination of Veterans Associations of the Municipality of Vogošća, the 29th anniversary of the "Pretis" operation was marked. Let us recall, this was an operation carried out on April 18, 1992, by the Special Unit of the MUP of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina to extract material and technical resources (weapons and ammunition) from the Vogošća company "PRETIS".

During that operation, Brigadier General Safet Hadžić, along with his comrades Fahrudin Čavčić, Almir Islamović, Senad Čirić, Sead Velić, and Nermin Zeljković, were killed.

This event was organized by the "Patriotic League" Veterans Association of Vogošća in coordination with the "Patriotic League" of Novi Grad and the Veterans Association of the Special Police Unit "BOSNA". The participants of the event first gathered at the Main Gate of "Pretis", which is also the place where Safet Hadžić was killed, and then the ceremony continued at the Freight Gate of "Pretis".

Delegations laid flowers at the monuments at the Main and Freight Gates, showing that even in times of crisis like the current pandemic, heroes of the defense against aggression must not be forgotten.

Speaking about the significance of this operation, the mayor Edin Smajić emphasized that the courage, ability, and willingness to sacrifice of the fighters who participated in this operation should be an example and a guide for all of us in the times ahead. He also pointed out that the material and technical resources extracted at that time played a significant, and perhaps fateful, role in the defense of Sarajevo.
