28th anniversary of the murder of teacher Fatima Gunić and her students Adis, Vedad, and Feđa marked

(Patria) - Around 300 Sarajevans gathered today at ZAVNOBIH Square in the Novi Grad municipality and paid tribute to teacher Fatima Gunić and her students: Adis Mujala, Vedad Mujkanović, and Feđa Salkić, who were killed by an Army of Republika Srpska shell during a lesson, 28 years ago.

On behalf of the Sarajevo Canton, flowers were laid at the memorial by the Minister of Economy of KS Adnan Delić, who stated that we must never forget the brutal murder of the innocent teacher and her students, as it speaks to the nature of the aggression we survived.

Deputy Chairpersons of the City Council Mirela Džehverović and Dragan Stevanović, Deputy Mayor Anja Margetić, and City Councilor Muamer Mekić today, on behalf of the City of Sarajevo, laid flowers at ZAVNOBIH Square in front of number 18, Novi Grad Municipality, in memory of teacher Fatima Gunić and her three students Adis Mujala, Vedad Mujkanović, and Feđa Salkić.

Teacher Fatima Gunić and her students were killed on this day 28 years ago, during the siege of Sarajevo 1992-1995, in an improvised classroom, by shrapnel from a mortar shell fired from aggressor positions. On that fateful day, 23 other students were seriously and lightly wounded.

Flowers were laid at the memorial and tribute was paid to the innocently murdered teacher and students. Also present at the commemoration of this sad anniversary were employees and students of the "Fatima Gunić" Primary School, who strive to preserve the truth from oblivion through various events and activities. In addition to the delegation of the City of Sarajevo, flowers were laid and tribute was paid by, among others, the relatives, friends, and neighbors of the murdered teacher and students, as well as representatives of the Sarajevo Canton, Novi Grad Municipality, and the Association of Parents of Murdered Children of Besieged Sarajevo.
