(Patria) - 17 years ago, Denis Mrnjavac was brutally beaten and then killed in a Sarajevo tram. He was only 16 years old and was returning home from school.
Every year, his mother Anja Mrnjavac, family members, his friends, and citizens gather at the tram stop near the American Embassy where they lay flowers.
The fatal stab wound to Mrnjavac was inflicted by Nermin Sikirić. He was 17 at the time and received a 10-year prison sentence for the murder. After serving his prison sentence, he was released.
A memorial to Denis Mrnjavac has still not been erected; instead, flowers are laid in front of a billboard with his picture.
