(Patria) - Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti stated that he received information from the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (KIA) about a plan to assassinate him in 2021.
“Security institutions took all measures to prevent such an action. The case was not made public in order not to spread panic,” the statement from the office of the Kosovo Prime Minister said.
Based on reporting by media in Albania, the anti-terrorism unit of the Kosovo Police received information from intelligence sources about threats to assassinate three individuals: Albin Kurti, Xhavit Haliti, and Ismet Haxha.
Haliti, a member of the Kosovo Assembly from the opposition Democratic Party of Kosovo, confirmed to local media in Kosovo that he received this information, according to which his life was threatened.
Ismet Haxha is a former member of the Kosovo Intelligence Service (SHIK).
Media in Albania also cited statements from a document stating that the assassinations of these individuals were aimed at destabilizing Kosovo.
There is also suspicion that their assassination was planned by Prek Kodra, a citizen of Albania. The same document states that Kodra was involved in several murders in Kosovo and Montenegro.
Radio Free Europe was unable to confirm the authenticity of this document.
It is alleged that it was published by hackers who carried out cyber attacks on the websites of institutions in Albania in July and September.
Official Tirana broke off diplomatic relations with Iran precisely because of these cyber attacks, accusing that country of being behind them.
