Obama condemns Florida massacre, Trump glad he was "right"

US President Barack Obama on Sunday condemned the worst massacre in the US in which 50 people were killed in a Florida gay club, calling it "an act of terror and hate".

- We now know enough to say that this is an act of terror and hate, said the US President in a very short speech broadcast live from the White House, reports the Patria News Agency.

- No act of terror and hate can change what we are, he emphasized, as rhetoric against homosexuals and Muslims has intensified in the country, especially due to the presidential race.

Republican candidate Donald Trump, who incited hatred throughout the primaries, expressed his "satisfaction" that he was right about radical Islamic terrorism.

He demanded the president's resignation if he did not want to use the term dear to the right, but President Obama refuses to use it so as not to stigmatize an entire community.

Obama assessed that "the FBI did well to start a terrorism investigation", although the killer's motives are still unclear. In addition, he decided that all flags on federal buildings should be lowered to half-mast in honor of the victims.

The killer was identified by the media as 29-year-old Omar Seddique Mateen, a US citizen of Afghan descent. The attacker acted alone and was shot dead in a shootout with police.

He allegedly pledged allegiance to the Islamic State during a call to an emergency number, CNN and NBC report. AMAQ, a news agency associated with ISIL, also claims that the killer is an "ISIL fighter".

In addition to 50 dead, 53 were injured in the massacre, according to the latest report from the authorities who called for blood donations. Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson and Attorney General Loretta Lynch canceled their participation in a ministerial meeting scheduled in Beijing.
