Former US President Barack Obama attended the Protestant Church Day held in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin yesterday, writes Patria.
One of the main topics of the panel, which was also attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, was the migrant crisis.
Obama emphasized that every person in the world, regardless of race and origin, has the right to love and solidarity, and that people living in poverty must be constantly helped.
-However, as president of a country, you have a primary obligation to protect your country and people. The best help for migrants is to end the problems and conflicts in their countries - said the former US president.
During his address, Obama also spoke about civilian casualties as collateral damage in American airstrikes on the positions of terrorist groups like ISIL.
- Some decisions I made were wrong and caused civilian casualties. However, there was no other way to reach the terrorists - said Obama, emphasizing that a far greater number of civilians died in conflicts between various terrorist groups than in places targeted by American drones.
Individual representatives of German opposition parties criticized Obama's appearance in Berlin.
