(Patria) - The New York Times, citing two unnamed officials from the Middle East, reported that the United States and Israel are preparing for the possibility of a renewed attack on Iran, which, according to these reports, could begin as early as next week. The reports state that these are the most extensive military preparations since the establishment of the ceasefire.
The same sources claim that this represents the highest level of military readiness since the ceasefire came into effect. The US Secretary of Defense stated before Congress this week that the Pentagon has plans ready for various scenarios – from relocating military assets and possible escalation of the conflict, to reducing operations and withdrawing forces from the region.
According to The New York Times, which cites US officials, if Donald Trump were to approve an attack, the option of intense bombing of Iranian military and infrastructure targets is being considered. Another possibility includes a ground operation aimed at securing enriched uranium stockpiles, believed to be buried after earlier strikes on nuclear facilities during the 12-day war.
At the same time, Israeli media are reporting a statement from a high-ranking Israeli official to Channel 12, who says that Israel is preparing for a possible imminent resumption of conflict with Iran. He claims that Washington believes negotiations with Tehran are not yielding results, and adds that key decisions from the US President are expected.
According to him, the Israeli side is preparing for "days or weeks of war," awaiting Donald Trump's decision, and additional information could become known very soon. These reports come after Donald Trump's recent diplomatic activities and his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which reportedly did not bring significant progress regarding the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz and relations with Iran.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military, according to media reports, is on heightened alert due to the possibility of a new escalation. The Israeli government, it is reported, is awaiting the US decision on a potential military campaign. According to the same information, a full-scale war aimed at regime change in Iran is not expected, but rather limited strikes on key military and infrastructure, with possible special operations targeting strategic locations and materials.
