Nožica on the acquittal of Mehmedagić: A war was waged here, a political hit on our client

(Patria) - The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina today at 12:00 delivered a verdict acquitting Osman Mehmedagić, director of the OSA, and Muhamed Pekić, an employee of this agency, of all charges brought by the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.

This verdict was delivered by Judge Branko Perić in an expedited manner, specifically half an hour after the conclusion of the closing arguments of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and the defense.

Mehmedagić's attorney Senka Nožica stated that this is a victory, but...

"This is not a victory that deserves celebration, because throughout the entire proceedings, great harm was intended to be inflicted on significant institutions, namely the Intelligence Agency. I must say that Judge Perić absolutely covered everything in his explanation. A war was waged here, a political hit on our client to remove him from his job. What is a fact and what makes us proud is that there are possibilities for proving the truth in BiH," said Nožica.

Mehmedagić and Pekić were charged with abuse of official position under the indictment of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH. Mehmedagić, as director of the OSA, and Pekić, as head of the Cyber Security Department in this institution, were charged with unauthorized acquisition of information about the sender of an anonymous complaint against Mehmedagić. As stated in the indictment, they learned in an undetermined manner that an anonymous complaint had been filed, and Pekić, following Mehmedagić's order to obtain the recording for him, contacted the director of "BH Pošta". They requested a surveillance camera recording for August 27, claiming it was a state secret. Čavka stated that the Prosecutor's Office had fully proven the allegations in the indictment and that these claims were confirmed by the witnesses heard.

Prosecutor Čavka today proposed to the Court of BiH that, upon the finality of the verdict, a security measure be imposed on Mehmedagić for a duration of five years with the aim of prohibiting him from working and accessing classified information.
