
(Patria) - A strong earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale hit the far east of Russia this morning, EMSC reports.

As reported, the quake occurred near the coast at the southern tip of the Kamchatka Peninsula.
The hypocenter was at a depth of about 40 kilometers. This is the strongest in a series of earthquakes that followed July 30, when one of the strongest earthquakes in history hit this region - a quake of 8.8 on the Richter scale.
After that quake, hundreds of aftershocks followed, with magnitudes up to 6.5.
