Novi Sad: Exhibition about Vukovar destroyed

Unknown vandals completely destroyed the exhibition by Srđan Veljović "Vukovar - Killing of a City", which was set up in the Milan Mladenović passage at Zmaj Jovina 22 in Novi Sad. Last night, the vandals smashed the display cases and tore up the photographs, and the police are searching for them, Blic.rs reports, as conveyed by Patria.

Srđan Veljović says that the intention was to remind people of the destruction of Vukovar through photographs, and he feels that the vandals were lazy because it took them a long time to notice the exhibition and destroy it. Two days ago, inscriptions such as "And what about the killing of Serbs?", "Cattle", "F*** Vukovar" appeared on the display case, and last night it was smashed.

- We had that in mind, because the topic produces that kind of reaction. While choosing the photographs, I made sure they were unquestionable and cleansed of all politics about who started it, and who 'we' are and who 'they' are. The message behind such an act is that there is still a young and angry world - says Veljović.

He adds that the idea of the exhibition was to point out that there was a city and that it was destroyed. He says he has not yet decided what to do with the exhibition, whether to repeat it at the same or another location. The exhibition was set up by "Art klinika" and "Women in Black" on the 25th anniversary of the fall of Vukovar, and it was supposed to last for a month.

- We should think about our relationships, what could have been done better? Just as I had a certain fear that the exhibition would end like this, there is also a fear that my children and the children of others will find themselves in a situation where something like this happens again - believes the author of the exhibition.
