New President of the European Council Organizes Working Dinner with Western Balkan Leaders

(Patria) - Future President of the European Council Antonio Costa will organize a meeting with Western Balkan leaders at the very beginning of his term.

Diplomatic sources in Brussels confirmed to Radio Free Europe (RSE) that Costa will organize a working dinner on December 3rd, which will be attended by all leaders from the region.

The dinner will be organized practically on Costa's second day in office as President of the European Council.

His mandate at the head of the EU's highest political body formally begins on Sunday, December 1st.

As officials in Brussels explained to RSE, with this meeting, Costa wants to send a signal to the Western Balkans that the region and the enlargement process will be considered a priority during his mandate.

This dinner will also serve to prepare for the upcoming EU - Western Balkans summit, which will be held on December 18th in Brussels and will be chaired by Costa for the first time.

Former Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa, received the support of EU heads of state and government at the Summit held in June to succeed Charles Michel, who held the position for the previous five years.

On Sunday, December 1st, the mandate of the new European Commission formally begins.

The European Parliament will vote on the new composition of the EU's executive body on Wednesday, November 27th.

The enlargement sector will be led by Marta Kos from Slovenia from December 1st, and EU foreign policy by former Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas.

The possibility has been unofficially announced that these two politicians, who will play a key role in the Western Balkans in the next five years, will attend the working dinner that Costa is organizing with the region's leaders.
