New attack in Jerusalem: Two people injured

(Patria) - Two people were injured today in a shooting in a new attack in East Jerusalem, Israeli police announced, qualifying it as a terrorist attack committed a day after a deadly attack on a synagogue in the same city, which was condemned by Israeli allies and some Arab countries, and 42 people were detained for questioning in the investigation.

Israeli police said the attacker was neutralized and wounded and that the motive was terrorism. State television channel Kan reported that the attacker was from the Silwan neighborhood and was 13 years old. The Israeli emergency service Magen David Adom said that two men were seriously injured and transported to the hospital. According to local media reports, they are father and son.

Seven people killed in synagogue attack
The shooting occurred less than 24 hours after a Palestinian attacker killed seven people near a synagogue in East Jerusalem, and Israeli police detained 42 people for questioning following that attack, which occurred on International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The detained individuals are relatives and neighbors of the deceased 21-year-old attacker, police said.

Several other people were injured when the attacker opened fire on people leaving a synagogue in the Israeli settlement of Neve Yaakov. Police killed the attacker at the scene as security forces searched the area.

Jordan and Egypt, Arab countries that have signed peace agreements with Israel, condemned the synagogue attack, as did the United Arab Emirates, one of several Arab states that normalized relations with Israel two years ago.
