A suspected ISIL member detonated an explosive device on himself on Thursday during a police raid on a house in Gaziantep, a Turkish city near the Syrian border, media reported, according to the Patria news agency.
"The terrorist who was in the hideout of DAESH (the Arabic acronym for IS) activated his explosive belt" as police officers approached, the Dogan news agency reported, without stating whether any officers were injured. A large number of emergency medical vehicles arrived at the scene, the agency reports.
None of the police officers were injured, the pro-government Anadolu news agency reported, adding that the bomber died in the explosion and that a person who was in the house was arrested. Turkey is on high alert following a series of bloody attacks linked to the Kurdish conflict and ISIL, which have killed dozens of people.
In a car bomb explosion on May 1 at a police station in Gaziantep, three police officers were killed. The attack occurred seven days after a visit by European leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Index reports.
