(Patria) - Michael Murphy, the new US Ambassador, arrived in Sarajevo today, the Patria News Agency has learned. The US Embassy announced the arrival of the new ambassador on Twitter, wishing him a welcome. Murphy will present his credentials on Wednesday, February 23, to the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Željko Komšić.
This is, in a way, a return for Murphy to BiH, where he previously worked as a political advisor at the American Embassy.
US President Joe Biden nominated Michael Murphy in July 2021 as the new ambassador to BiH, and after passing all hearings, he was officially appointed as the new US ambassador to BiH in mid-December after the Senate confirmed his nomination.
In his address to the US Congress, Murphy pledged the implementation of the Dayton Peace Agreement, i.e., the fulfillment of "5+2" for the closure of the OHR and ensuring the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Murphy is expected to be particularly dedicated to the fight against corruption, which is one of the biggest problems in BiH.
