(Patria) - Twitter users will soon have to be verified to use TweetDeck, the company announced, agencies reported. The change will take effect in 30 days.
Twitter announced this with details about an improved version of TweetDeck with new features. It is unclear whether Twitter will charge users for both the new and old versions of TweetDeck. Charging for TweetDeck, which was previously free and widely used by companies and news organizations for easy content monitoring, could bring increased revenue to Twitter, which is struggling to maintain advertising revenue under the ownership of billionaire Elon Musk.
This move comes just days after Musk said that both verified and unverified users would have a limited number of posts they could read per day.
His announcement caused strong reactions from users on Twitter, and advertising experts said it would undermine new CEO Linda Yaccarino, who started that role last month.
Individuals must pay eight US dollars per month to verify their account, while organizations pay a thousand, Reuters reminds.
