(Patria) - Germany faces the risk of a new recession due to trade tensions that have escalated after the introduction of tariffs by current US President Donald Trump, warned the German Finance Minister.
"A possible trade conflict increases the risk of recession, there is no doubt about that," Joerg Kuki told radio station Deutschlandfunk this morning.
Germany is already suffering the consequences of two consecutive years of recession, and a third consecutive decline in economic activity in 2025 would represent a historically long downturn for the largest European economy.
As reported by Reuters, German economic institutes are preparing to lower their growth forecast for 2025 to just 0.1 percent – and that is according to estimates that do not yet include the latest tariffs introduced under the Trump administration.
