German government firmly behind Schmidt: Milorad Dodik's secessionist policy has consequences

(Patria) - Statements by the President of Republika Srpska, Mr. Dodik, against the High Representative are completely unacceptable. An order to arrest the High Representative would be illegal and would constitute a violation of the Dayton Peace Agreement, according to a statement from the spokesperson of the German Federal Government.

"The Dayton Agreement has been making a significant contribution to preserving peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina for almost three decades. Preserving this peace order is the central task of the High Representative. He also has the full support of the German Federal Government in this regard. The Special Envoy of the German Federal Government for the Western Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin, was recently in Bosnia and Herzegovina and once again very clearly conveyed our position to Mr. Dodik in a conversation.

The continuation of the secessionist policy by the President of Republika Srpska harms the people in the country the most. It also has consequences. A few weeks ago, the Federal Government decided on the gradual cessation of four major infrastructure projects and thus their successive termination. Incentives have also been canceled by the European Commission.

The Federal Government does not impose sanctions at the national level. These are unanimous decisions at the European Union level," the Federal Government announced.
