(Patria) - Germany and Ukraine have agreed on the delivery of additional Patriot air defense missile systems, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in his evening address on Wednesday.
"Today we have good news from Germany – exactly what we agreed with (German Chancellor) Olaf Scholz. There are additional Patriot systems. Thank you very much, Olaf, this is necessary to defend our people from Russian terror," Zelenskyy said, Reuters reports.
Earlier on Wednesday, Germany announced its decision to deliver two more Patriot launchers to Ukraine.
"This will definitely bring us closer to creating a complete air shield for Ukraine. This will help people, cities, villages," Zelenskyy said.
Ground-based air defense systems like Raytheon's Patriot are designed to intercept incoming missiles. However, they are scarce across NATO as many allies reduced their air defense units after the Cold War.
