Germany pays citizens to consume electricity

Last week, Germany reached a record in renewable energy production, reports qz.com. Thanks to a sunny and windy day, at one point, solar, hydro, and wind power plants were producing 87 percent of the total energy being consumed, reports the Patria News Agency.

Energy prices were thus negative for several hours, meaning consumers were paid to consume electricity.

Germany plans to be fully supplied by renewable energy by 2050. Danish wind turbines are already producing more electricity than the country needs, and it exports the surplus to Germany, Norway, and Sweden, writes Index.
