Germany does not see NATO's role in unblocking the Strait of Hormuz, Iran says it is closed only to US and Israeli ships

(Patria) - German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that Berlin does not see a role for NATO in resolving the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. He was reacting to Donald Trump's statement, who said in an interview with the Financial Times that it would be "very bad" for the future of the Alliance if member states did not help secure this waterway.

Wadephul commented in Brussels, ahead of the meeting of the Council of the European Union for Foreign Affairs.

"I do not see that NATO has made any decision in that direction, nor that it could take responsibility for the Strait of Hormuz," said Wadephul.

"If that were the case, then the competent NATO bodies would deal with it," he added.

At the same time, Iran's response arrived. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the Strait of Hormuz is not completely closed.

"It is closed only to American and Israeli ships and tankers and their allies, but not to others," said Araghchi.

In recent days, Turkish and Chinese ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz.
