Five people were injured, three of them critically, in a knife attack on a bus in the city of Siegen in western Germany, police announced on Friday evening.
A 32-year-old female attacker was arrested, police said.
At least 40 people were traveling on the bus to a city festival in Siegen, about 75 kilometers from Cologne, when the attack occurred around 7:40 PM, the statement said.
The incident occurred a week after a fatal knife attack in the city of Solingen in western Germany, when an attacker killed three and injured eight people.
The suspected perpetrator, a 26-year-old Syrian man, is in custody. The militant group calling itself the "Islamic State" claimed responsibility for the attack, although German authorities are still investigating the credibility of this claim.
Police in Siegen urged citizens to "not spread fake news on social media or other channels, and especially not to link the incident to a terrorist attack."
There is no information about the motive for the attack so far.
Police were still at the scene on Friday evening, and evidence collection and witness interviews are ongoing.
