(Patria) - If the Dutch company Elysian succeeds in its endeavor and builds a passenger plane that can fly without kerosene, it will revolutionize air traffic.
This startup is working on an electric aircraft for 90 passengers named E9X, which could cover a distance of 800 kilometers.
The possibility of making an electric passenger plane is very good, as confirmed by a study on battery power for aircraft conducted in cooperation with Delft University of Technology.
Until now, battery-electric flight has not been considered a viable solution for passenger planes due to the presumed limitations in aircraft capacity and range.
However, new research shows that air travel in this way is possible on a larger scale than previously thought, writes Punkufer.hr.
"Revised calculations based on new design principles signal a paradigm shift in the potential of battery-electric flight," say Elysian.
The E9X aircraft is designed for shorter distances and should be operational by 2033.
Elysian believes it will have an economically viable option compared to traditional aviation and create a symbol of a future industry where carbon neutrality will play an important role.
