Sarajevo City Hall will be lit up tonight in a special light to mark Joe Biden's victory in the race for President of the United States.
Simultaneously and at the same location, citizens of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, in accordance with epidemiological measures, will welcome Biden's victory in America and celebrate a proven friend of this country.
In a country of strange woes, miracles never cease. During the campaign and the uncertain post-election days, citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially Bosniaks, openly rooted for the Democratic candidate. No one can blame them for that, as they have the right to their opinion.
But what if the election outcome had been different? Should one risk alienating the leader of the world's most powerful and influential country due to fan-like projections of the situation?
We already showed a lack of diplomatic tact and knowledge in international politics at the highest state level during the elections in Montenegro. We root for one side here, based on our own reasoning, and then the ones we rooted against win. We immediately worsened relations with those who came to power, and who are not to our liking here.
However, political rooting for politicians in other countries is not the most terrible thing happening to our country and its capital.
Because someone came up with the idea to celebrate the winner of the presidential elections in Sarajevo, at its City Hall, and turn it into a spectacle that the normal and polite world will laugh at.
We are known for the subservient attitude of incompetent politicians, and tonight we will probably be the only country celebrating Biden's triumph.
Even if we disregard political correctness, the question is whether the people, the citizens of Sarajevo, are normal.
Because in a city ruled by nationalists for over 25 years, someone decided to celebrate the victory of the American Democrats and their president.
The question is, do we need to be reminded how much this city, recognized worldwide for its beauty, has been destroyed in every form of its existence by policies of nationalism, crime, arrogance, nepotism...
I wonder who will celebrate Biden's victory in an orderly cradle of democracy, in a city where a child is refused treatment, in a city where those organizing the celebration commit urbicide, in a city stuck between civilizational achievement and the post-war collapse of every cell of its society.
Who is celebrating Biden and the Democrats while modified fascism is being imposed as a social norm? Who is in the mood for celebration when waiting for Corona to end so they can leave for Germany?
Does it make sense to celebrate Democracy if a few families rule this city and our beautiful country? What democracy are Sarajevans celebrating, when Mostar has not had elections for 12 years?
Americans, whether Democrats or Republicans, will get up tomorrow, go to work, by metro, on excellent quality highways, while Bosnians in Sarajevo will ride roller-coaster trams or travel a few kilometers on the highway and the rest on dirt roads.
Americans should celebrate. And they do celebrate, not just these, but all elections held so far. Because Americans have an organized system; whoever becomes president, they will live a life where they have a job, a home, peace.
Bosnians and Herzegovinians, or those who go to celebrate Biden, will return home, count their meager change for cigarettes, because nervousness is killing them, their child has to go to school tomorrow, and dad got fired.
Anyone who hopes that Biden will bring them a job, ensure their freedom, food, schooling for their children, treatment for their wife, while they themselves vote for green, red, and blue, is on the wrong path towards a cliff.
Sarajevo is ruled by the nationalist SDA. There is no trace of democracy there. Those SDA nationalists have stolen this city and this country from us. So why are you celebrating the victory of the Democrats and Biden in America, while the two-edged sword of nationalism hangs over your head? To all of you who will celebrate Biden and the Democrats' victory in America tonight, I recommend turning your attention to November 15th and starting to prepare for the expulsion of the nationalist party from this city.
Because if you don't, Biden, Merkel, America, and Germany will be in vain.
I also wonder how Republican congressmen, if there are more of them in America, will react to this. On the other hand, I ask you to consider why no other city is organizing such a masquerade and who is organizing tonight's event in Sarajevo. Is it some kind of pre-election self-promotion?
Celebrating democracy in an occupied city, that's called a joke!
