NOTHING NEW Cikotić and Galić: Border Police Lacks Staff

Director of the BiH Border Police Zoran Galić, with his deputy Fahrudin Halač and assistant for organization and operations Dragan Kulić, received the BiH Minister of Security Selma Cikotić today.

At the meeting, they discussed the situation at the state border and the situation with illegal migrations, with an emphasis on the eastern border and the Una-Sana Canton, where the migratory pressure is greatest.

Also, at the meeting, they discussed the measures that need to be taken to more effectively combat the migrant crisis and the problems faced by the BiH Border Police, primarily concerning the lack of staff. Galić stated that almost all available human and material-technical resources have been redeployed to the eastern and northeastern parts of the border.

"The Border Police is redeploying existing staff capacities to the parts of the border where migratory pressure is greatest. We have assistance from other police agencies, but it is not enough to adequately respond to the migration issue," said Galić.

Minister Cikotić emphasized that the BiH Border Police will have the support of the BiH Ministry of Security in its operations and that it will focus on more effective control of the state border and strengthening the capacities of the BiH Border Police. Galić and Minister Cikotić emphasized the importance of improving cooperation and involving all levels of government for more effective management of the migrant crisis in BiH.
