Nikšić dissolves SDP Cantonal Committee in TK, Bećirović appointed commissioner coordinator

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Based on the authority granted by the Statute of the Social Democratic Party of BiH, the President of SDP BiH Nermin Nikšić has made a decision to dissolve the bodies of the Cantonal Organization of SDP Tuzla Canton and to introduce a Provisional Authority into the organization there, it was announced today from SDP.

As stated in the explanation of this decision, the Cantonal Committee of SDP BiH TK at its session on July 1, 2019, adopted a conclusion that they have “started talks with partners regarding the establishment of government in TK within their capacity” and that they will do everything to establish the government in TK as soon as possible.

“Immediately after that, we had the opportunity to see how talks with SDA began, which unequivocally violated the decisions and conclusions of the Main Board of SDP BiH, confirmed by the adoption of the report on the work of that body of SDP BiH by the Congress delegates. Despite all the clear facts, I did not want to rush with any sanctions, expecting that the people in the leadership of the Cantonal Committee would understand the gravity of the decision they made and abandon its implementation. Instead, we are witnessing increasing media pressure, a deepening rift within the organization, and the undermining of unity in a way that organizations clash with each other, and pressure is exerted on individual representatives to persuade them to change their decision. I believe that the Cantonal Committee and its leadership, by adopting conclusions on the formation of government in TK, and especially by opening negotiations with SDA, have fully consciously and grossly violated the decisions and conclusions of the Main Board of SDP BiH made at the 17th session of the Main Board of SDP BiH held on February 9, 2019, and at the 18th session held on March 19, which were also confirmed by the 7th regular Congress, as the highest body of the Social Democratic Party of Bosnia and Herzegovina, by accepting the report on its work,” Nikšić stated in the explanation. 

As further explained, the members of the organization's leadership are aware that the Statute of SDP BiH stipulates that only the Main Board of SDP BiH has the authority to decide on establishing coalitions with other parties, which is why the conclusions of the Cantonal Committee of SDP TK are beyond their jurisdiction, and therefore cannot produce any external effect, nor internal effect on the members of the organizations from TK who do not respect them.

The Statute of SDP BiH, among other things, stipulates that the president, in urgent cases, can make decisions regarding the representation of SDP BiH based on the decisions and positions of SDP BiH bodies.

“Given that I am currently the only body at the level of SDP BiH fully functional, with clearly defined rights and obligations, aware of the fact that with such actions the leadership of the Cantonal Committee, which behaves as an autonomous, completely alienated part of the organization and thus causes increasing political damage to SDP BiH, consciously violates the decisions of higher bodies, and undermines the unity of action within and between individual organizations, I have used my authority and made the decision to dissolve the bodies of the Cantonal Committee of SDP TK.
I am obliged to also adopt measures that will ensure the smooth functioning of the organization. That is why I have made the decision to appoint a provisional authority with clearly defined tasks established in the operative part of this decision,” Nikšić stated. 

Denis Bećirović has been appointed as the coordinator for the work of the Provisional Authority for TK and SDP BiH, which should ensure full coordination, assistance, and cooperation in achieving the set tasks.

“I believe that the continuation of such actions by the Cantonal Committee would only further confuse the public, our members, sympathizers, and voters, which would cause political damage to SDP, which is why I have made the decisions as stated in the operative part, which takes effect on the day of its adoption,” it is stated, among other things, in the explanation of the decision by the President of SDP BiH Nermin Nikšić.
