Nikšić: Glorifying violence, crime, and war criminals are not foundations for raising our children; we must promote healthy values

(Patria) - Federal Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić commented on the tragic event at an elementary school in Lukavac where a 13-year-old injured a teacher with a pistol, causing him serious harm.

Nikšić stated that "we must not allow children to come into possession of weapons."

"Unfortunately, this happens, as we witnessed this morning in Lukavac. As a society, we must do more to prevent such things, not just talk about them after they happen. And today, unfortunately, we did just that. The Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina dedicated a large part of today's session to the tragic event in Lukavac. We have taken into account all official information about the case received from the competent authorities. The conclusions adopted are in line with this.

When children, minors, are involved in such unfortunate events, the issue becomes even more sensitive. We kept this in mind the entire time.

I must also say the following. The glorification and exaltation of violence, crime, and war criminals, which we witness daily, are not the foundations on which we can raise our children, and unfortunately, public space is full of such things, which, among other things, lead to tragedies.

I appeal to all participants in social processes, especially political ones, to engage in creating a healthy society and environment. The future of every society rests on children, and it is our obligation to offer them proper role models by promoting healthy social values and norms. Successful individuals from the fields of science, art, sports, and the like should be in focus, and they should be their role models.

With our example, we are obliged to show children and young people that problems are solved through conversation, not arguments and violence," Nikšić stated.
