Nikolić thanked Putin for vetoing the UN resolution on Srebrenica

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin because Russia vetoed the adoption of the resolution on Srebrenica in the UN Security Council. He said that Russia's move "carries in his heart".

- You cannot imagine how grateful Serbia feels for your two actions concerning the future of Serbia, as well as Republika Srpska - said Nikolić, adding that Russia prevented Kosovo's entry into UNESCO.

Nikolić said that "by adopting the resolution on Srebrenica, Serbs would be accused of being a genocidal nation and stereotypes that existed about it would be confirmed" and recalled the action of the Russian Tsar who "entered the war to defend Serbian brothers".

- I know how difficult it is to veto in the UN Security Council, and this move will be remembered in Serbia... I carry this in my heart and could not wait to tell you all this and to thank you for the support Serbia has in its attempt to stand on its own feet and join the developed countries.

Nikolić also thanked Putin for the understanding shown for Serbia's behavior in international relations, as well as for the courage Russia shows in the fight against the Islamic State.

At the end of his two-day visit to Moscow, Nikolić told reporters that Serbia can count on Russia's economic and political support.

- Putin clearly said that Serbia can count on Russia's support in the future on the economic level and in political representation where it defends its sovereignty and integrity, especially when it comes to Kosovo and Metohija - said Nikolić.
