No one as politically powerful as Bandić has ever been arrested in Croatia

Political analyst Žarko Puhovski told Croatian media that for years there have been rumors of numerous complaints and accusations against Bandić, that people have reported him to various state authorities, and therefore Bandić's arrest is not a surprise.

"On the other hand, he is the third most powerful politician in Croatia, and so far no one with such great power has been removed from office in the sense of being taken to prison. This is a big event, and I truly hope that USKOK had serious arguments, i.e., documentation to support it. It seems to me that the story about Perković is completely irrelevant for most of Croatia; it's a few old people on the left and right who deal with it. I think Croatia is not interested in that at all, and I do not believe it is something important that should divert attention," said Puhovski.
