(Patria) - Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley accused party leaders on Sunday of not being fair mediators in her campaign against Donald Trump and said she doesn't have to win the South Carolina nomination to stay in the race, Reuters reported.
Haley, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, told NBC that the former president will become even more "independent" as the race for the Republican presidential nomination progresses.
Haley is trying to gain momentum against Trump after finishing third behind him in Iowa and second in New Hampshire.
They are now looking for a win in South Carolina, where Haley was once governor. Trump is far ahead of Haley in the polls, but Haley said she doesn't necessarily have to win her home state to move on. The Republican primaries are held on February 24.
"I have to show that I am building momentum. I have to show that I am stronger in South Carolina than in New Hampshire," she said.
"Does it have to be a win? I don't think it necessarily has to be a win. But it certainly has to be better than what I did in New Hampshire, and it certainly has to be close."
