Strike not ruled out: Union demands salary payment from KS Government

(Patria) - The Management Board of the Independent Union of Civil Servants and Employees of Sarajevo Canton has concluded that they will warn the Government of Sarajevo Canton that it is violating the provisions of our Collective Agreement regarding the timeframe for salary payments.

The Union demands that the KS Government pay salaries to all budget users by Friday, 11.09.2020, otherwise it will initiate all legally permitted union activities, including strikes and protests. The Union is determined that strikes and protests are the response to prevent the Government of Sarajevo Canton from violating the Collective Agreement for civil servants and employees in the state service bodies of Sarajevo Canton, as such actions would lead to lawsuits filed by civil servants and employees, thereby causing additional damage to the cantonal budget.

We remind that there is already a debt of 36 million KM based on workers' lawsuits. The Union will take all legal actions to prevent a repeat of the scenario where governments in previous years caused damage to the KS budget with such decisions, resulting in a large debt to civil servants and employees who have filed lawsuits due to violations of workers' rights.

Furthermore, the Independent Union of Civil Servants and Employees of Sarajevo Canton will not allow violations of the Law on Salaries in KS Government Bodies and the Collective Agreement for civil servants and employees in the state service bodies of Sarajevo Canton, as this, among other things, protects the budget which is most needed by all of us in these difficult times, it was announced.
