Niger bans UN agencies and NGOs from operating in military 'operational zones'

(Patria) - The coup leaders in Niger have stopped United Nations agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and international organizations from working in military "operational zones", the Ministry of Interior of Niger announced.

The authorities did not specify which regions of Niger are covered by this decision, reported the AFP agency.

The ministry's statement broadcast on national radio states:

"Due to the current security situation and the operational commitment of the Nigerien armed forces, the ministry informs international organizations, national and international non-governmental organizations and UN agencies present in Niger that all activities and/or movements in the operational zones are temporarily suspended."

Recall, on July 26, a group of officers overthrew President Mohamed Bazoum and placed him under house arrest.
