Independent Board to review Police Commissioner Selimović's actions in murder investigation today

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Independent Board for the Election and Review of the Police Commissioner of Sarajevo Canton will hold an extraordinary session today to consider the letter from the KS Prosecutor's Office with attachments regarding the actions of Police Commissioner Nusret Selimović in the investigation of the murder of two police officers, Adis Šehović and Davor Vujinović. 

In its letter to the Independent Board, the KS Prosecutor's Office clarifies the actions, or lack thereof, of the police commissioner, who allegedly also disbanded the investigative team working on the murder case. 

All these information will be reviewed today by the Independent Board, which already had a number of criticisms regarding the police commissioner's work in its report on the police commissioner's performance for the period March-September 2021. 

As confirmed for Patria, Commissioner Selimović was not invited to today's session, which will be closed to the public. 

A few days ago, Selimović held a press conference where he declared the murder case of the police officers "solved" even though no suspect has been apprehended yet. He then called on the KS Prosecutor's Office to intensify its work, and the KS Prosecutor's Office responded. 

"We remind the public that the Sarajevo Canton Prosecutor's Office is conducting an investigation into the murder of Sarajevo police officers and that police agencies, including the MUP KS, are obliged to take actions within their authority and under the supervision of prosecutors. Shedding light on the criminal offense from, as stated, a police perspective and informing the public about it does not simultaneously mean that sufficient evidence has been collected in the case on the basis of which a prosecutorial decision can be made.

In the interest of the investigation, it is necessary for everyone to refrain from disclosing information about the case, as this can directly jeopardize the interests of the investigation into a serious criminal offense. The Prosecutor's Office will continue to intensively carry out actions in this complex investigation, and the MUP KS is expected to act promptly and effectively in accordance with the law on the requests and orders of the prosecutor's office," it was announced.
