Unprecedented tragedy: 25 years ago, 180 miners from Kreka died

In the Kreka mine, at the Dobrnja-Mramor pit, on August 26, 1990, a few hours after midnight, in a terrible explosion, the cause of which has still not been fully resolved, 180 miners died, the youngest shift of this mine with an average age of 27, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

All those who descended into the pit that evening, except for Smail Imamović, who sustained serious injuries but survived, lost their lives, and the citizens of Tuzla and surrounding areas showed their grief and sympathy at their farewell, the largest that Tuzla had ever seen.

They left behind 365 children, and it is difficult to describe all the sorrow and pain that enveloped the Tuzla region, as well as the entire former country, during those days.

In memory of this mining and human tragedy, every year at the Kreka Mines, with the presence of representatives of local authorities, tribute is paid to the fallen miners, in the hope that a similar tragedy will never happen again.
