New York fears traffic collapse due to NBA Finals and World Cup

(Patria) – New York authorities hope the New York Knicks will win the NBA title in four games to avoid the final series overlapping with World Cup matches.

Namely, if the NBA Finals between the Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs last until Game 6, it would be played on June 16 at Madison Square Garden, just a few hours after the match between France and Senegal at MetLife Stadium. This is expected to cause major congestion at Penn Station.

New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani stated that city services are rooting for a Knicks sweep, but are preparing for all possible scenarios.

City authorities have announced enhanced security measures and additional bus and rail lines during the World Cup, assuring citizens they can handle the expected influx of tens of thousands of fans.
