New York to Host Free Fan Events During World Cup

(Patria) - Officials have announced that New York City will host a series of free events for soccer fans hoping to experience the excitement of the World Cup but unable to due to high ticket prices, AP reported.

Events, one in each of the city's five boroughs, will include watch parties and other festivities.

They will be held at Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, Brooklyn Bridge Park in Brooklyn, a shopping center near Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, and a minor league baseball stadium on Staten Island.

A separate fan event planned for the Sports Illustrated stadium in Harrison, New Jersey, where the New York Red Bulls play, will cost ten dollars.

World Cup matches will be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where just getting to and from the games via public transport could cost $150.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a known soccer enthusiast, announced the free events along with New York Governor Kathy Hochul.

"Every fan should be able to watch the biggest tournament in the world without spending their savings," Mamdani said.

Similar fan events are planned for other U.S. host cities.
