(Patria) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday thanked the authorities in Saudi Arabia, with whom his country has no formal ties, for their "warm attitude" after an emergency landing of a plane in Jeddah, AFP reported.
The Air Seychelles flight with Israeli passengers was en route from Seychelles to Tel Aviv.
Saudi airspace was closed to flights to and from Israel until July 2022, when it was opened to coincide with US President Joe Biden's visit to the region.
The Air Seychelles plane made an emergency landing on Monday in the Saudi coastal city of Jeddah due to technical difficulties.
On Tuesday, the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that an Israeli charter flight had brought the Israelis back from Jeddah.
"I very much appreciate the warm attitude of the Saudi authorities towards the Israeli passengers whose flight was in distress and was forced to make an emergency landing in Jeddah," Netanyahu said in a short video statement.
According to Israeli media, there were 128 Israeli passengers on the Air Seychelles flight. They were welcomed and spent the night in the Red Sea city.
