Netanyahu: Conflict with Washington over delayed arms deliveries will be 'resolved in the near future'

(Patria) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Sunday that the dispute with the United States over delayed weapons related to the war in Gaza will soon be resolved.

"About four months ago, there was a dramatic drop in the supply of weapons arriving from the US to Israel. We received various explanations, but... the basic situation has not changed," he said at a government session.

"In light of what I heard yesterday, I hope and believe that this issue will be resolved in the near future," Netanyahu added, AFP reported.

He said that top Israeli officials have lobbied their American counterparts at the "highest
levels... at all levels" for faster arms deliveries.

"After months without this situation changing, I decided to make it public," he said.

Netanyahu angered Washington with a statement earlier this week in which he accused it of "withholding weapons and ammunition to Israel".

Netanyahu's latest comments came as Defense Minister Yoav Gallant flew to Washington for talks on the war in Gaza.

The Prime Minister said on Thursday that Israel needs American ammunition to wage a "war for its existence" as it battles Hamas in Gaza and exchanges fire with Lebanese Hezbollah on its northern border.

Washington is Israel's main military backer, but the White House has expressed frustration over the rising civilian death toll in Gaza.
