(Patria) - Israel will respond strongly to any attack, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday, following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and a senior Hezbollah official in Beirut.
- Citizens of Israel, challenging days lie ahead. Threats are coming from all directions following the attack in Beirut. We are ready for any scenario and will together confront every threat. Israel will respond strongly to any aggression - Netanyahu said in a televised address.
He stated that Israel has dealt heavy blows to pro-Iranian militant groups in recent days, including Hamas and Hezbollah. However, he did not mention Haniyeh's assassination, which has led to threats of revenge.
Although Israel is believed to be behind the attack on Haniyeh, the government in Jerusalem has not claimed responsibility and stated it will not comment.
Meanwhile, the deputy leader of Hamas in Gaza, Khalil Al-Hayya, said that Haniyeh was hit directly by a missile.
- As a result of the missile strike, the windows, doors, and walls in his room were destroyed - Al-Hayya said at a press conference in Tehran, referring to witnesses who were with Haniyeh in Iran.
