(Patria) - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that a ceasefire in the war in Gaza "will not happen" as it would represent a surrender to Hamas, agencies reported.
He also said at a press conference that other countries must provide more assistance in the fight to free more than 230 hostages abducted by Hamas in its October 7 attacks.
Netanyahu said the international community must demand that the hostages "be released immediately, unconditionally," adding that there were 33 children among the captives and that Hamas "terrorizes them by holding them hostage".
"Just as the United States would not agree to a ceasefire after the bombing of Pearl Harbor or after the September 11 terrorist attacks, Israel will not agree to a cessation of hostilities with Hamas after the horrific October 7 attacks," he told foreign journalists at a conference.
"Calls for a ceasefire are a call for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorism, to surrender to barbarism. This will not happen," he added, vowing that Israel would "fight until this battle is won".
Netanyahu said the army is doing everything to "prevent civilian casualties" in Gaza.
