(Patria) - This is a historic day for the Middle East, stated Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday, on the occasion of the Syrian rebels' offensive which led to the fall of Bashar al-Assad.
- The Assad regime was a central link in the Iranian axis of evil, that regime has fallen - said Netanyahu during a visit to Mount Bental on the border of Israel with Syria.
Netanyahu also assessed that this is a direct result of the blows Israel has dealt to Iran and Hezbollah, who, according to him, have so far been the main supporters of the Assad regime.
This is a historic day for the Middle East. The collapse of the Assad regime, the tyranny in Damascus, offers great opportunity but also is fraught with significant dangers.

- This has created a chain reaction throughout the Middle East of all those who want to be freed from this oppressive and tyrannical regime - assessed Netanyahu.
He also warned that Assad's escape from Syria carries certain risks.
- We are primarily acting to protect our border. This area has been controlled for almost 50 years by a buffer zone agreed upon by the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement. This agreement has failed, Syrian soldiers have abandoned their positions - added Netanyahu.
