Untouched island seeks new owner, priced at $35 million

(Patria) - Once in a lifetime - with these words, the advertisement for a large piece of abandoned, undeveloped land near the west coast of Chile seeking a new owner - an adventurous one - is described.

An untouched island in the stunning Patagonian archipelago, known as Virgin Island, located in the Aysèn region in one of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet, is for sale for $35 million, writes The NY Post.

The news that this private island - which, at 44,559 hectares, is half the size of Hong Kong, but seven times larger than Manhattan - has been listed by Hall and Hall agency was first reported by Mansion Global.

"While islands are generally not for everyone, it is rare to find an island of this size, with abundant coastline, fresh water, raw beauty, privacy, and seclusion," real estate agent Jeff Buerger told The Post of Virgin Island.

He adds that the area is completely untouched, representing a great "opportunity for development," reports Dom i dizajn.

The listing states that the island has a coastline 163 kilometers long, and contains lakes, streams, springs, waterfalls, and has 80 lagoons...

The Andes Mountains run the entire length of the island, and a large part of it is covered by wetlands.

Lakes and lagoons cover an area of 1,556 hectares, and forests cover 17,889 hectares.

The island also contains 1.134 billion cubic meters of fresh water. However, the only thing it lacks are houses. For now.

"The opportunities for conservation and management here are equally unprecedented. Purchasing Virgin Island represents an opportunity to preserve an ecological marvel while simultaneously contributing to the environment in a meaningful and ecological way," the listing states, among other things.

To access Virgin Island, visitors must travel to Santiago International Airport in Chile, then to Balmaceda Airport, and then take a boat or helicopter.
