Accident in Zagreb: Three workers injured at swimming pool construction site

(Patria) - An accident occurred at the swimming pool construction site in the Špansko settlement in Zagreb today shortly before 3 PM, injuring three construction workers.

According to information released by the City of Zagreb, one worker was seriously injured, while two sustained minor injuries.

The City of Zagreb stated in its announcement that the seriously injured worker was transported to the hospital conscious and is not in life-threatening condition.

The injured workers are employees of Strabag, the contractor for the swimming pool construction.

Initial information about the incident appeared on social media, in local groups of Špansko residents. All emergency services – police, ambulance, and firefighters – quickly arrived at the scene.

According to unofficial information, one worker was buried under rubble but was successfully rescued with the help of other workers and paramedics.

The police and the State Inspectorate are currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the accident, the City of Zagreb stated.

Furthermore, the mayor and his deputy visited the construction site and spoke with workers, emergency services, and the contractor, accompanied by relevant department heads.

City authorities announced that the public will be informed of new information as it becomes available.

The City of Zagreb recently announced that the construction work on the swimming pool in Špansko was ahead of schedule and proceeding according to plan.

The project, which began in July last year, has an 18-month execution period, meaning that the citizens of Zagreb will get a new, modern swimming facility at the beginning of 2026.

- The construction of the swimming pool in Špansko has been promised for the last 20 years and represents a key step in improving the sports infrastructure of the City of Zagreb.

This is an investment worth 34 million euros, financed from the city budget, which demonstrates that investing in sports infrastructure is one of our priorities - said Mayor Tomislav Tomašević recently.

The new swimming pool will include a larger sports and recreational pool, a smaller educational-rehabilitation pool, a sauna and wellness zone, stands for 300 spectators, and a corrective exercise hall.

The complex will cover a total of 5,900 m² with one underground and two above-ground floors, including additional facilities such as spa spots.
