Accident in Ilidža: UKCS, MUP and Emergency Service give conflicting information about the death of Safet Prazina, someone is lying

Since May 23, when worker Safet Prazina (42) sustained severe injuries after falling from the 7th to the 3rd floor of a building under construction in Ilidža, and died the same day at the Clinic for Abdominal Surgery of UKCS, this tragedy has been accompanied by numerous misinformation.

They leave room for speculation as to whether the unfortunate man could have been saved had it not been for the procedures introduced into the functioning of healthcare in the Sarajevo Canton by the verbal order of UKCS director Sebija Izetbegović. Is Prazina the first victim of the chaos prevailing in healthcare?

Even greater suspicion is raised by the completely conflicting information coming from UKCS, the Institute for Emergency Medical Aid of the Sarajevo Canton, and the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton regarding this case, writes the news agency Patria.

As a reminder, on May 23, the media published information obtained from the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton that the accident occurred after 3:00 PM.

Then at 9:50 PM, the next information was published on Klix, again confirmed by the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton, that the worker had been operated on but was in serious condition. Unfortunately, Safet Prazina had already been dead for four hours at the time of this text's publication. Only in the morning, again from the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton, the media was told that he had died during the night due to severe injuries.

Besides providing inaccurate information about his health condition, even the time when who was notified of the accident does not match.

Let's go in order. From UKCS, they told NAP that they did not give the media information that Prazina had been operated on, and confirmed that he died due to severe injuries at 5:30 PM the same day. He was admitted to the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KUM UKCS) at 4:03 PM, brought by the medical team of the General Hospital "Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš".

Given that it was Monday, one of the days when the Emergency Department of the General Hospital is on duty, not KUM UKCS, the severely injured Safet Prazina was transported by the Emergency Service team to the General Hospital.

Sena Softić-Taljanović, director of the Emergency Service, told us that their call center was notified at 1:21 PM that an accident had occurred at a construction site in Ilidža, and the nearest team was dispatched to the scene, arriving at 1:29 PM.

They transported the severely injured Prazina to the General Hospital, where the on-duty medical team assessed that due to the severity of his injuries, he had to be immediately transferred to KUM UKCS, which was done.

However, it remains unclear how the MUP gave the media information for almost 24 hours that the accident occurred after 3:00 PM and that Prazina was in serious condition, when he had already been dead for hours!?

Therefore, we requested an answer from the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton to the following questions:

1.) The director of the Emergency Service confirmed that this health institution received a call on May 23 at 1:21 PM about an accident at a construction site in Ilidža. By 1:29 PM, the Emergency Service team was at the scene. That day, the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton told the media that the accident occurred after 3:00 PM. Why was the public given incorrect information from the police via the media about the time of the accident?

2.) Who from the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton gave the media information on May 23 around 9:30 PM that the worker had been operated on at UKCS and was in serious condition, when the unfortunate man (Safet Prazina) had already been dead for hours? Where did the MUP get that information? According to the response we received from UKCS, Prazina was not operated on at all and died on May 23 at 5:30 PM.

3.) On Tuesday, May 24, in the morning hours, the media published information again obtained from the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton that Safet Prazina had died during the night, but as I have already stated, the unfortunate man had already been dead the day before at 5:30 PM?

Without any corrections, we transmit the response we received from the Public Relations Office of the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton.

- In connection with your inquiry dated June 2, 2016, we inform you that on May 23, 2016, at approximately 3:25 PM, the shift supervisor of the Ilidža Police Station was notified by an employee of the General Hospital "Prim. dr. Abdulah Nakaš" that a person P.S., born in 1974, had been brought in, injured in a fall from scaffolding on Butmirska cesta, Ilidža municipality, and was in life-threatening condition. This information was recorded in the Event Log under serial number 4360.

After receiving the information, all legally prescribed activities were undertaken. We note that the only authorized persons to provide information about the activities of the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton are the Public Relations Department and the Operations Center, and possibly other persons who receive authorization in a specific case.

The aforementioned did not provide the information you mention in the second and third questions of your inquiry, was the response given to NAP from the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton.

How is it that the MUP was notified only two hours after the accident?

-That is not true, Sena Softić Taljanović is categorical.

-Immediately after the call about the accident in Ilidža (call received at 1:21 PM, editor's note), nurse Lejla Mujkić from the call center called the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton and reported the accident. Technician Nedim Halilović from the field reported that they could not wait for the police because the patient was in extremely serious condition, and they were heading to the General Hospital.

Nurse Lejla from the call center then called the General Hospital and said to prepare an anesthesiologist because the patient was in extremely serious condition. If necessary and with a court order, we will provide the audio recording of the call to the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton, said Softić-Taljanović.

She explained that the Emergency Service protocol is to immediately call the MUP of the Sarajevo Canton in cases of workplace accidents, fires, and injuries caused by firearms and cold weapons.

The Cantonal Prosecutor's Office of Sarajevo has formed a case in this matter. An autopsy of the deceased Safet Prazina has also been performed, and court expert Hamza Žujo told NAP that the injuries were to the chest and abdomen. When asked whether this caused death, he could not give us an answer.

This prosecutor's office has already taken the medical documentation of Safet Prazina from the General Hospital, and probably from the other two health institutions where he was provided assistance.
