(Patria) - A three-year-old girl was seriously injured at the St. Peter's Day gathering in the village of Grbavci near Gradiška when she was run over by a car in the churchyard.
After receiving assistance at the Health Center in Gradiška, the girl was transported to the University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska and, as ATV learns, she is out of danger.
The accident occurred last night around 9:30 PM, and witnesses say it was a tragic accident.
According to witnesses, the 24-year-old driver was delivering drinks to a dispenser located in the churchyard.
He was reportedly driving in reverse, and although several people signaled to him that a child was behind him, the driver did not notice her. He hit the girl with the vehicle, and part of the car went over her.
“It was a horrific scene… The child got stuck under the car, so they literally had to lift it to free her. When they lifted the car, she was conscious, but she said her head, arms, and legs hurt,” say witnesses of the accident.
The Gradiška Police Department confirmed that the accident was reported, that an investigation was conducted, and that the District Public Prosecutor's Office in Banja Luka was informed about everything.
