Unsolved Cases of Murders and Attacks on Bosniaks in RS

From the signing of the Dayton Peace Agreement to today, Bosniak returnees have been brutally attacked and murdered in the Republika Srpska, their property destroyed, and the killers and attackers have never been found. These cases have been considered unsolved for 19 years, writes the Patria News Agency.

In April 1996, in the village of Mahala near Kalesija (an area that belonged to RS), during a visit to the area, RS police lightly wounded Mustafa Halilović and Abdurahman Omerović with grenades.

In August 1996, in the village of Mahala, members of the RS special police unit attacked Bosniaks returning to their homes. At that time, 18 Bosniak returnees were lightly injured, while Muradif Alić sustained severe injuries from which he died on November 29 in the hospital in Tuzla.

In August 1996, in Zvornik, Serbian police unlawfully arrested Ibrahim Ibralić and inflicted severe bodily injuries on him all over his body. His Opel Ascona car and 6,500 German marks were confiscated.

On December 23, 1996, in the village of Caparde, members of the Republika Srpska police arrested Fejzo Karić, and then took him to the police station in Osmaci, where they physically abused him, inflicting severe bodily injuries.

In early March 1996, in the village of Bulatovci, Hazim Bešić was brought to the SJB Zvornik. During the journey, he was harassed and abused, and severe bodily injuries were inflicted upon him.

In August 1996, in a field called Memine vode, about two kilometers from the then demarcation line, unknown persons of Serbian nationality (suspected to be the Ravna Gora Chetnik Movement) severely wounded Alija Agić, who died the same day from his injuries.

In November 1996, in the settlement of Gajevi, members of the RS Ministry of Internal Affairs killed Mehmed Arnautović with firearms. He was helping with the accommodation of Bosniaks in Gajevi that day.

On October 11, 1996, five Bosniak houses were demolished in the village of Jusići. The houses were demolished by Serbs using explosives.

On September 20, 1996, a number of Bosniaks returned to the village of Jusiće. Only three days later, a larger group of Serbs entered the village, attacked the Bosniaks, and stoned their houses that they had begun to repair.

On October 11, 1996, in the village of Jusići, members of the RS Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested Safet Junuzović, Sadik Muratović, and Enver Ahmetović. They were taken to Zvornik but were released in the evening under IFOR pressure.

On October 12, 1996, a group of armed Serbs attempted to enter the village of Dugi Do with the help of the police, and one police officer opened fire on the village.

On January 12, 1997, in the village of Jusići, unknown persons fired an M-84 machine gun from the direction of the village of Androvići (RS), hitting Adem Vejzović, who sustained severe bodily injuries.

On February 21, 1997, in the villages of Križevići, Snagovo, and Caparde in the RS area where Bosniaks lived before the war, seven houses were mined.

On March 18, 1997, at the demarcation line at the intersection of the Sapna-Nezuk road, members of the RS Ministry of Internal Affairs arrested Dževad Mehmedović, a disabled man without legs. He was beaten, harassed, and taken to Zvornik. He was later released.

On August 15, 1997, around 9 AM in Laze, Zvornik municipality, two murders and one minor injury were committed by unknown persons from the RS area. The investigation, carried out by operatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of TK, PS Teočak, and IPTF members, determined that unknown persons fired from an ambush with automatic weapons at a group of Bosniaks who were going by tractor to collect firewood.

On April 24, 1999, while working on their plots called Matjevača, in the settlement of Koraj, Lopare municipality, RS, persons of Serbian nationality fired automatic weapons in several bursts at Džemal Tufekčić, his wife, and a minor child.

On April 24, 1999, from the direction of the settlement of Gajevi, Mujići hamlet, Lopare municipality, infantry weapons were fired, with 5 bullets hitting Muhamed Ibrišimović, who was working on his plot near the settlement of Bare. Ibrišimović left his field with his tractor, where he was stopped by members of the RS Ministry of Internal Affairs in the settlement of Bare, and when he described the attack to the Serbian police patrol, they dismissively stated that such perpetrators could not be caught.

On April 19, 1999, in the area of the field called Matjevača, from the direction of the village of Mirosavci, Lopare municipality, RS, unknown persons fired 4-5 shots from automatic weapons at a group of Bosniaks who were working on their plots.

On June 29, 1999, Hajrudin Ademović and Jasmin Memišević were visiting their homes in the settlement of Koraj. Around 7:15 PM, while they were in the yard of Bešlaga Begić, they were physically attacked by two Serbs. Ademović sustained bodily injuries during the incident.

In early September 1998, in the premises of the Municipal Assembly of Bratunac, the then councilor Sekula Kljajić physically attacked another councilor of the Municipal Assembly of Bratunac, Refik Begić.

In June 1997, a group of persons of Serbian nationality attacked buses carrying Bosniaks who were visiting Vlasenica. They were then threatened that in the future, bombs would be thrown at them instead of stones. Zoran Obrenović from Vlasenica, who was a member of a maneuver unit in the VRS during the war, as well as Rade Garić, Goran Višković known as Vjetar, Veselko Došić, and Zoran Stupar, were particularly prominent in these activities as initiators and organizers.

On May 7, 2001, during the stoning in Banja Luka, at the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the Ferhadija mosque, Murat Badić was killed. His killer has not been found to this day.

On July 11, 2001, Meliha Durić, a sixteen-year-old girl and returnee from Vlasenica, was killed by a sniper shot. Her killer has never been found.
