NO PROTECTION: Pharmacy workers increasingly exposed to armed robberies, assaults, insults

SARAJevo, (Patria) - On Thursday afternoon in a Baščaršija pharmacy, a patient, or rather a registered drug addict, attacked a Pharmacy Sarajevo employee without reason, and then broke everything he could with a chair.

“Fortunately, my colleagues were not injured, they survived the trauma and incredible fear and stress. The scenes I saw after I arrived were on par with or worse than wartime scenes when shells were falling next to our pharmacies. Security guards and police arrived, the individual did not flee and waited for them outside the pharmacy. He was detained and is probably already free,” wrote Kemal Delihasanović, president of the Pharmacy Sarajevo Union.

He has been appealing to the authorities for a long time that pharmacy workers are exposed to armed robberies, assaults, and insults simply because they work and respect the law and their profession.

“What delighted me after the shock was that all my colleagues who were nearby came to the pharmacy, and in half an hour we cleaned it up and made it operational for the continuation of the duty. The security guard stayed in the pharmacy until morning, and we will continue with this practice.

This must stop before someone pays with their life at their workplace. And then, the authorities say there will be no salary increase for pharmacists in negotiations, and the minister says pharmacies should be privatized. It won't work like that,” emphasizes Delihasanović.
