Dean of the Faculty of Criminal Justice and Criminology in Sarajevo, Nedžad Korajlić, told the BiH news agency Patria that citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina should perceive last night's terrorist attack on the police station in Zvornik as an attack on Bosnia and Herzegovina, because the attack could have happened in any part of the country.
Korajlić said that it is high time for all structures in BiH, from religious to police agencies, to engage in a systemic fight against all forms of terrorism in the country, and that only a joint fight can contribute to improving the security situation in the country.
Nerdin Ibrić (25) from Zvornik broke into the Police Station in Zvornik on Monday evening, after which he killed one policeman and wounded two. Attacker Ibrić was also killed in the shootout.
RS Minister of Internal Affairs, Dragan Lukač, characterized last night's incident as a terrorist act and announced a fierce fight against violence.
Professor Korajlić, on the other hand, warns that one must be very careful in the fight against terrorism. Bosnia and Herzegovina, Professor Korajlić believes, will not benefit in any way if, in the coming months, police agencies only search the houses of certain individuals. The fight against terrorism, he warns, is waged by creating a climate in the country that is unsuitable for terrorists and terrorist organizations.
- Authorities in BiH must create an environment in the country where there will be no place for terrorists. Young people must be offered opportunities to prove themselves in the fields of science, sports..., and not through forms that are unacceptable in society – said Korajlić.
