Neglect of BiH citizens: Border Police not even considering special counters/lanes for citizens

SARAJevo, (Patria) - In a response sent to MP Damir Arnaut, the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina stated that most international border crossings in BiH lack the necessary infrastructural conditions for establishing specially marked control lanes that, in accordance with the law, pertain to establishing separate lanes for border checks of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina at border crossings.

The Border Police clarified that the equipping of border crossings is not within the jurisdiction of the Border Police but rather the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH.

"Insufficient number of police officers who would be engaged in performing border checks on specially separated lanes and booths (the BiH Border Police constantly lacks about 400 police officers)," stated the Border Police.

Despite the limiting factors (poor infrastructure of border crossings and a significant lack of personnel and material-technical capacities), the BiH Border Police performs police duties related to the supervision and control of border crossings of Bosnia and Herzegovina and other duties prescribed by law, emphasize the BiH Border Police.

It is evident that the Border Police did not fully answer, as MP Arnaut's questions were clear, and the response showed that this issue has never been systematically considered, nor was it explained why.

Thus, apart from complaints about poor infrastructure and a lack of police officers, we did not learn why there are no special counters (at airports) or lanes (at road crossings) at border crossings and at exits from our country, following the best practices of democratic countries towards their citizens.
